This special glass is a polycrystalline material produced through controlled crystallization of base glass. Glass-ceramic materials share many properties with both glasses and ceramics. Glass-ceramics have the fabrication advantage of glass as well as the special properties of ceramics.

Approximate resistances to thermal shock depending on the glass type are:

Soda limesilicate glass – 50° С
Soda limesilicate glasssemi-tempered – 140° С
Soda limesilicate glasstempered – 230° С
Borosilicate glass – 350° С
Ceramic glass – 800° С
