Fire-resistant glass can be classified in two categories:
Heat transmitting glass - contains flames and inflammable gas for a short period of time, but does not prevent the transmission of heat to the other side of the glazing. (Example: wired glass, reinforced laminated glass).
Fire-insulating glass - contains flames and inflammable gas for a longer period of time and prevents not only the transmission of flames and smoke but also of heat to the other side of glazing. This type is also known as laminated fire-resistant glass.
In case of fire, laminated fire-resistant glasses comprising of clear glasses and transparent interlayers transform into opaque screens that keep out flames and reduce or completelyprevents the spread of the heat wave.
Fire-resistant glasses provide variouslevels of protection measured at regular intervals (15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 and 180 min). The choice of this type of glass depends on the fire safety requirements and regulations of the State and their application in the building.
Fire resistant glazing does not merely comprise of fire resistant glass, but the complete system, including the frame, glazing and fixing techniques.
The entire system must be tested and conform to the relevant standards required by building codes. The use of a particular glass for fire resistant glazing must always be selected in conjunction with a framing material, glazing method and framing test requirements or limitations.
When exposed to fire, the pane facing the flames fractures but remains in place, and the interlayer immediately foams up to form a thick, resilient and tough insulating shield that absorbs the energy of the blaze. This takes place at relatively modest temperatures around 120°C, such that protection is provided right from the early stages of a fire.
Classes that Daks-96 can supply:
E (30/60/90/120) Classification – Provides a barrier against fire, hot gases and smoke.
EW (30/60) Classification – Provides a barrier against fire, hot gases and smoke, and assures a reduced passage of thermal radiation.
EI (15/30/45/60/90/120) Classification – Provides a barrier against fire, hot gases and smoke, by creating an additional thermal insulation.
EXT or INT – Classifies the glass for interior or exterior use.
